Community Events: How Can You Celebrate 14 Days In December In You Community?

COMMUNITY EVENTS: (Check back often for updates)

Some events that have been held in the past regarding 14 Days In December are:

~ The RCMP has sponsored a Highway Awareness Campaign
~ Many local churches have services including theme of 'Gentle Ways Are Best'
~ Local businesses have advertised and supported the initiative
~ The Royal Bank created a Road Banner
~ The Birches Nursing Home, the Railway Museum and the Peace Park host a community tree lighting and opening ceremony annually
~ Community Television created a film production.
~ Purple Ribbon Campaign

The Purple Ribbon Campaign is a Nova Scotia initiative run under the auspices of the Transition House Association of Nova Scotia. The campaign is run every year from November 25 to December 10 to commemorate the December 6, 1989 murder of fourteen women in Montreal, as well as to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women. A fundraising campaign to support transition houses and women's centers across the province is also conducted at that time. This ties in well with our theme of 14 Days in December.
